Two decades on one vehicle: the school bus.
Synovia builds technology for K-12 transportation and nothing else. No long-haul trucking, no delivery vans, no side markets. Every product decision starts with the same question: does this get a student home safer?
Our story
Born in the bus lane, not the boardroom.
Synovia started in Indianapolis with a simple observation: school districts were running some of the largest fleets in their counties with paper logs and radio check-ins. We put GPS on school buses before "telematics" was a word most people knew, and we have been refining what districts do with that data ever since.
In 2015 we launched Here Comes the Bus, the parent app that turned bus tracking into something families use every morning. Today it serves more than 1.7 million parents across 300+ districts.
In 2019 Synovia joined CalAmp, pairing our K-12 focus with the scale of a global telematics company. The result is a platform backed by enterprise engineering but still built, sold, and supported by people who know what a bus lane looks like at 6:45 AM.
Milestones
How we got here.
GPS goes on the bus
Synovia is founded in Indianapolis and puts live GPS tracking on school buses, replacing paper logs and guesswork with real data.
Here Comes the Bus launches
Families get live bus location and arrival alerts on their phones. Calls to district offices drop. The app grows to 1.7M+ parents and 100M+ notifications a month.
Synovia joins CalAmp
CalAmp acquires Synovia, backing the K-12 platform with the engineering, security, and hardware supply chain of a global telematics company.
One connected ride
Fleet Guardian, Bus Guardian, and Student Guardian run as one platform, from the dispatch office to the driver's seat to the family's phone, across 400+ districts.
What we believe
The principles behind the platform.
Safety is the product
Every feature has to earn its place by making a student's ride safer or more accountable. If it does not, it does not ship.
K-12 only, on purpose
School transportation has rules, rhythms, and stakes that generic fleet software does not understand. We build for bell schedules, routing plans, and parents, not pallets.
A partner, not a vendor
Synsurance exists because districts should not carry hardware risk or surprise invoices. One fee, lifetime warranty, and support from people who pick up the phone.
